"Don't Worry, Be Sleepy!"

Yesterday as Caroline and I were shopping for a new 2014 calendar to help her stay on top of her schedule, I heard my dad's voice.... "Mary you have got to utilize your time!" He had the incredible ability to see what really needed to be done and figure out a process to accomplish the task. He taught me if you work hard, then you earn the right to play hard.

Each year we start with the goal of staying organized and being productive with our time, but somehow a few weeks into the year we get sidetracked. We lose track of time and not sure where the days, weeks and months went.

So what highjacks your time? Mine is worrying. I like to think of it as "Thinking" but honestly when you wake up at 3am "Thinking" creeps into worrying, which leads to anxiety and regret...things I should have done or said but didn't or did and shouldn't have. I have found if I really want to worry, the best thing to do is watch the news or hang around negative people. Then I will start worrying about their problems too!

Last night as I was laying there at 3am "Thinking" about my work, marriage, kids, health, finances, weight, family....and who knows what else, God reminded me worrying is a waste of time. I need to utilize my time by thinking on things that fill my soul, like his Word. So I am making index cards with verses that speak to me and memorizing and reading them at 3am. So, God's thoughts instead of mine...that's a novel idea. Join me, and fill your heart and mind with the God who can fix everything and never has a regret.

Matthew 6:25-27, 33-34

25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ? 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
